The role of the young adult services librarian and the school librarian is constantly changing and evolving. Increasingly, young adult and school librarians are being called upon to serve both teens and tweens. How can librarians navigate the divide between these age groups and meet their differing needs?

Through this four-week course, participants will learn how to evaluate their library’s population to determine who is using the library’s services and what they need. Participants will discover best practices in serving teens and tweens from school and public libraries in collections, space, programming, and marketing. By the end, course participants will be able to complete an environmental scan, be familiar with local, state, and national standards for library services to tween and teens, and identify ways in which their library can improve its communication with and services to tweens and teens. Students may expect to spend approximately 2.5 hours per week on course work.
