This four-week YALSA online course will introduce those who work with teens and graphic novels to best practices. The first week will provide an overview of graphic novel descriptors and assorted examples, including some for students to choose among to read and discuss during course. Week two discusses graphic literacy and text literacy. During the third week, participants will learn about manga, nonfiction, and other special areas of graphic novel availability and interest. The final week of class will address bibliographic issues such as selection, access, and marketing. Students may expect to spend approximately 2.5 hours per week on course work.
